How Do I Apply?

We are now accepting applications for the 2010 Cohort!.

Application and Interview Process

Please make sure that you carefully review the steps below prior to beginning and completing your Texas Teaching Fellows application. Due to the competitive nature of our program and limited space, we encourage all candidates to apply early. Some subject areas fill quickly, and applications for filled subject areas will not be reviewed. If you have any questions after reading this, please contact the appropriate TTF office and we will be happy to answer any questions that you still may have.

Step 1: Read this Website

This website provides a detailed description of the program and may answer many of your questions about applying.
For more information, we encourage you to attend one of our regularly scheduled information sessions. Information regarding Information Session dates and times can be found on the Learn More page of the website.

Step 2: Check your Eligibility

Please be sure to thoroughly read the section on eligibility for the Texas Teaching Fellows program. This is a critical piece of the application process. Only the applications of eligible candidates will be reviewed.

Please note that all applications, including the resume and response to Application Questions, must be submitted online in the appropriate format requested (Word 2003 or PDF).  Texas Teaching Fellows is not able to accept paper applications.

Every application is reviewed for completeness, eligibility, and potential for success as a Fellow. You will receive notification of your application status within two weeks of our receipt of your complete application.

Due to high volume of candidate traffic to our website, you may experience technical difficulties accessing the My TTF application portal.  If you experience any problems on the application, please return to our site momentarily, as we will work to address any technical issues promptly as they arise.

Interview Events

Applicants find our Interview Events to be inspiring and informative; and they typically play a crucial part in a candidate’s decision to pursue teaching.  While challenging, the Interview Event provides an excellent opportunity to meet TTF staff and other candidates, as well as district administrators and other school personnel.

One recent interviewee had this to say about the experience:

"I so enjoyed the interview event on Saturday. My selectors were great and so was the caliber of candidates. The day was challenging and inspiring and that's the way I envision teaching to be. I walked away with a comprehensive understanding of the program and what it means to be a Texas teacher in a high-needs area. I want to thank you for inviting me to interview day.”

The Interview Event typically lasts approximately six hours.  During this time, you will participate in the following individual and group activities as part of the selection process:

  • Five-minute individual sample lesson demonstration
  • Discussion with peers on a current topic in education
  • Writing sample
  • Personal interview

Interview Events are offered five times throughout the year. If invited to interview, you will be asked to participate in the next Interview Event immediately following the offer.  All candidates who are invited to interview will receive an Interview Event Guide with further directions and guidelines for the session via email.

Please note: All Interview Events take place in person on dates identified in advance by our program. While we recognize that some candidates will be traveling to Texas for their interviews and understand that coordinating travel plans can be difficult, we are unable to make scheduling exceptions.

“I chose Texas Teaching Fellows because it seemed like the most rigorous of all of the alternative certification programs, and I wanted to make sure I was prepared when I got to the classroom.  After attending an interview event and seeing how professional—and personal— the program is, I am convinced I made the right choice.”
