Why Texas Teaching Fellows?

Support Network

“TTF offers a great support system. The experience I received during summer institute, as well as the lessons and activities from the seminars, have helped me get through so many situations. I truly believe that the training I received from TTF has helped make me the successful educator I am today.”

-Texas Teaching Fellow

As any teacher can tell you, the first year of teaching is never easy.  We survey our Fellows throughout that first year, and we continuously hear the same thing:  It is the support of other Fellows and TTF faculty and staff that helps Fellows make it through the most trying moments.

Peers

Joining TTF means joining a group of like-minded individuals who confront similar challenges as they move toward their mission of closing the achievement gap for students in hard-to-staff subject areas and schools.  While all Fellows reach out to support one another and enjoy interacting professionally and socially, we see that Fellows bond strongly with other Fellows teaching the same subject.  Content-based Fellow cohorts provide a built-in network of professionals dedicated to sharing ideas and supporting one another.

Faculty

Fellows have the opportunity to draw on the knowledge of a variety of experienced educators.  Over the summer Fellows typically develop close relationships with their Institute instructors, and they are able to observe and learn from the cooperating teachers under whose supervision they teach.  During the school year, Fellows have the support of their Seminar Leader, as well as the Field Observer who visits them in the classroom.

TTF Program Staff

TTF staff members take pride in their ability to provide professional and prompt communication whenever an applicant or Fellow presents a question or concern.  We work with our Fellows from the very beginning of the process to make sure they feel confident and prepared as they transition to a new career in teaching.

“Thank you! …It seems at every turn I am more and more impressed with the dedication and preparedness of the TTF staff/program.  I feel very fortunate to have you helping me realize this next goal.”
